FAQs About Nursing Homes in Mckinney and Argyle, Texas
When is it time to move from assisted living to a nursing home?
When seniors in assisted living who have been managing with limited help have a change in health, memory, or physical capability beyond the capabilities of assisted living care, it is time to consider other options.
What is the difference between a nursing home and assisted living?
Assisted living is long-term care for those needing help with their daily activities. One person may need help with medications, another might need help with grooming, another may need laundry assistance, or all of the above. Each person’s needs are different. Good assisted living programs support independence yet provide the services and support seniors need, including social activity.
Nursing homes provide care for those with more advanced needs. The care can be temporary as a person recovers from surgery or a hospital stay, but it is often permanent as a resident’s disease progresses or abilities decline. One facility may offer both types of care.
What is the difference between skilled nursing and assisted living?
Skilled nursing facilities are also called nursing homes or convalescent homes. They typically provide 24-hour medical care, including medical treatments and monitoring by a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Registered Nurse (RN). They can also provide short-term rehabilitative treatments or physical therapy after an injury or illness.
As previously mentioned, assisted living provides limited care for otherwise independent people. Some assisted living facilities require a particular level of function for admittance, such as walking 150 feet with or without mobility assistance. The assisted living offered at Teresa’s House is truly exceptional because of the nursing care provided by our 24-7 nurses and certified caregivers, which goes above and beyond state requirements for assisted living.
